When I first arrived in Hokkaido, I didn't know that "長万部" (Nagamanbe) is pronounced "Oshamanbe." But when traveling strictly on local lines, you pass through Nagamanbe Station both going and returning. And at this station, you often have a layover—short ones around an hour, longer ones up to 2-3 hours. So, I rented a bicycle (as of August 2025, no electric or gear-shifting options) from the tourist information center directly connected to the station and explored the area around the station. There aren't many shops besides a few soba restaurants and crab-related stores near the station, along with a 7-Eleven and a drugstore, so I enjoyed the surrounding scenery. I happened to visit a levee along the Nagamanbe River, and the view from there was absolutely stunning (Google Maps doesn't show the levee).
