With time to spare before my return flight from Takamatsu Airport, I visited Ritsurin Park. I hadn't researched it beforehand, but the grounds are incredibly vast. Arriving in early autumn, too early for autumn colors, the trees and mountains were lush and green, creating a sea of green as far as the eye could see. Honestly, this left me with a slightly rustic impression I couldn't shake, making me strongly feel this is a garden best visited during the autumn foliage or cherry blossom seasons. While many famous Japanese gardens change their appearance seasonally or reveal different charms, Ritsurin Park is a garden that demands you choose your season carefully. Had I visited just a few weeks later, I'm sure I would have been greeted by a truly magnificent view.
