Oura Tenshudo: Japan's Oldest Existing Christian Building and a World Heritage Site
The title already packs in its awesomeness, but it truly is an incredible structure. As one of the World Heritage Sites representing Nagasaki and Japan, you can vividly feel the weight of its history. Inside the church, hats must be removed, and photography is strictly prohibited. But I think that's just right. I really hope you'll visit Nagasaki in person, brush up a bit on Nagasaki's history and the history of Christianity beforehand, and see and feel it for yourself. While the stained glass is undeniably beautiful, I was truly stunned by the power and intensity of the Martyrdom of the Twenty-Six Saints painting. I heard that even after the atomic bomb, it only suffered minor damage and has been displayed continuously since the church's founding. It resonated so deeply with me that after leaving the church, I went back just to see it again.
