A Dynamic Monolith! Ono-kame on Sado Island

Like the nearby Nitsukame, Ōnogame was featured in the Michelin Green Guide Japan with two stars. Honestly, I didn’t have high expectations—thinking, “It’s just a rock, right?”—but when I went to see it, I was amazed by its sheer grandeur, which far exceeded my imagination. “W-wow, it’s huge…” Seeing it in person really has a majesty that photos or videos simply can’t capture. It seems you can hike to the summit of Ōnogame in 20 to 30 minutes one way. Since it was cloudy that day, I didn’t climb it myself, but I could see people making their way up. You can also see Nitsugame from this spot, and I thought, “Ah, I see—from here, they really do look like two turtles.”
