The Akigawa River, a tributary of the Tama River system. The location in the photo is near the border between Akiruno and Hachioji, right where the Tama tributary becomes the Akigawa. A little further west, you reach the foothills of a proper mountain range, but this area is accessible by bike. A short hike south brings you to sites like the Takiyama Castle ruins. Venture a bit into the woods, and you'll find natural cooling even during the day, with temperatures around 22°C (72°F). Just a few dozen minutes by car, and you can enjoy pristine scenery that feels worlds away from the big city. It's a place where you can feel pleasantly tired, get thoroughly rejuvenated, and enjoy nature at an incredibly high cost-performance ratio. Nature and cost-performance might seem incompatible, but that's not the case here. You can wisely immerse yourself in nature.
