While there are 280 Hikawa Shrines nationwide, this Kitami Hikawa Shrine is a branch of the Setagaya Kitami branch. Together with the nearby Okura Hikawa Shrine and Unane Hikawa Shrine, they are collectively known as the Three Hikawa Shrines. Personally, I find the beauty of this Kitami Hikawa Shrine to be the most captivating. Walking along the single tree-lined path from the main gate to the shrine hall clears away extraneous thoughts, leaving you with a pure feeling. The nostalgic atmosphere extending into the nearby residential area is simply irresistible. While its founding is said to date back to 740, perhaps some ancient, enduring power still flows here.
