Without a set destination, I arrived in Nishi-Maizuru. I checked only the name "Yoshiwara Inlet" on Google Maps, rented a LUUP bike at the station, and headed there. Perhaps the lack of prior knowledge added to the thrill, but wow—a magnificent view of the boat houses spread out before me. When it comes to Kyoto's boat houses, Ine is famous, and I've visited there before specifically to see them. That place has its own unique charm and is lovely. However, purely personally, I felt the scenery of the boat houses in Nishimaizuru, starting a little before Yoshihara Inlet and including Yoshihara Inlet itself, had a more lyrical and nostalgic depth. If you ever visit northern Kyoto, I highly recommend immersing yourself in the scenery around Yoshihara Inlet.
