The world-renowned head shrine of Itsukushima Shrine. Perhaps because it's so famous, I didn't expect much before actually visiting. Even seeing the torii gate and shrine buildings exposed at low tide didn't move me deeply. However, the scenes where these often-featured objects blended into the background were truly magnificent. Standing here, enduring the inevitable effects of seawater and typhoons, the aesthetic of the people who have protected it over time truly strikes a chord.
