I learned about the painter Mitsumasa Anno from a poster in the Tsuwano Station passageway. I instantly fell in love with the style of his paintings—he was also a picture book artist—and on impulse, I headed straight to the art museum in front of the station. Born in Tsuwano and living in Koganei, Tokyo, he had won numerous awards and enjoyed great success—it was surprising I hadn't known him before. Photography was strictly prohibited inside the museum, as the paintings were watercolors, but his style was personally very appealing to me, and the collection was truly wonderful. Beyond the art itself, the museum building was also delightfully beautiful. I felt it embodied the colors of Tsuwano, representing the town's most iconic painter.
