Daikeizan Gotokuji Temple is packed with attractions. It is a Soto Zen temple and is also said to be the birthplace of the maneki-neko (beckoning cat). Thanks to the power of its beckoning cats, it attracted many foreign tourists from Europe and America, even more than from Asia (and because it was a holiday, most of the beckoning cats at the souvenir shop were sold out). Beyond the beckoning cats, there are over 10 fascinating structures to explore, including the Ii family tomb, a three-storied pagoda, and the Buddha Hall, allowing you to thoroughly enjoy the site for over an hour. You can also appreciate the seasonal plants and trees, and it seems especially beautiful in winter when snow accumulates.
