Asahikawa, one of Hokkaido's major cities. The area around the station, especially the north exit side, is quite bustling, lined with several department stores and shops. However, just a short distance from the station, you'll find plenty of pleasant countryside scenery. Three rivers—the Ishikari, Chubetsu, and Biei—cross the city, converging into a single river on Asahikawa's west side.
