I rode my bike along the promenade (closed to cars) that runs along the Ishikari River, from Mihara Bridge to Ishikari Bridge. First, I was amazed by the sheer size of the Ishikari River when I first saw it from Mihara Bridge. Then, having learned the name “Ishikari River” in social studies back in elementary school—a name everyone knows—I found myself lost in reflection as I finally came face-to-face with it for the first time in decades. After crossing the Mihara Bridge, I rode along the riverside promenade (though the riverbank is so incredibly wide that you can’t actually see the river). Riding along this promenade felt absolutely wonderful.
