Just near the Hakodate Mountain Ropeway base station, four churches stand in a row, offering a taste of foreign charm. I visited three of them: the Catholic Motomachi Church, Hakodate St. John's Church, and Hakodate Orthodox Church. As it was just after sunset, the illumination gave them a castle-like feel, which I thoroughly enjoyed. All are active churches, and you can enter during specific daytime hours.
