










It's not just a hidden gem known only to the initiated; locals and tourists alike seem to make a point of visiting this robatayaki izakaya called "Mannnaoshi," which has been in business for over 100 years. I visited on a weekday just after 5 PM and got seated right away, but after that, reservation calls and customers came in nonstop. No wonder—every single dish was incredibly delicious. We ordered quite a lot, starting with deep-fried pufferfish, eel liver, salt-grilled barracuda, and shrimp tempura (split open and fried – seriously huge portions). But it was so delicious, we easily polished it all off. The place is currently run by brothers – the older brother is the owner, and the younger is the head chef. There are also many young part-time staff, which speaks to the restaurant's popularity.
