When you enter the Nozayamakita Park Bicycle Path from the Tama Lake Bicycle and Pedestrian Path to head towards Nozayamakita and Rokudoyama Park, you'll encounter a tunnel so retro that you might think there's no other tunnel in Tokyo quite like it. Four tunnels dedicated solely to bicycles and pedestrians follow one after another: the Akasaka Tunnel, Mitake Tunnel, Akahori Tunnel, and Yokota Tunnel. Originally built as a railway for transporting materials in the early Showa period, they were repurposed as bicycle tunnels after their original function ended. They might feel a bit spooky after dark, but passing through during daylight hours offers a truly retro experience full of charm.
