The Hakodate Main Line is Hokkaido’s longest railway, connecting Hakodate Station to Asahikawa Station via Omanbe Station, Otaru Station, and Sapporo Station. However, since there isn’t a direct train from Hakodate to Asahikawa, you’ll need to transfer at various points along the way. Nevertheless, this train allows you to fully appreciate the vastness and richness of Hokkaido. Through the train windows, you can fully take in a glimpse of Hokkaido’s vast natural landscapes—including the sea, mountains, lakes, countryside, and pastures. The journey time itself also serves as a reminder of just how vast Hokkaido is. The distance from Hakodate to Asahikawa is approximately 420 km, so riding the Hakodate Main Line alone makes for quite the journey.
