Onojicho, located in Machida City, Tokyo, flourished as a historic post town along the Kamakura Kaido. “Yoridoko Onojishuku” is a multi-purpose facility housed in a renovated traditional Japanese house in Onojicho. While it’s not a large, mall-like complex, it’s a compact yet thoroughly satisfying space featuring a café and restaurant with rotating daily offerings, a community hall, a traditional storehouse, a garden, and a hill behind the property. On the day I visited, the rotating café was open, but since I didn’t have much time, I just took in the view of the beautiful bamboo grove on the hill behind the property. I thought to myself that next time I go, I’d like to relax in the kitchen area.
