Walking a short distance from Sensoji Temple's Kaminarimon Gate along the Nakamise Shopping Street, you'll find Asakusa Baien on your left. It's not just retro-style; this long-established teahouse genuinely retains the atmosphere of the Taisho to Showa eras. You place your order at the counter first, and the ticket you receive is so nostalgic! Their sweet red bean soup with mochi is famous, but on this day, I had melon soda and a coffee float. I was delighted when exactly what I imagined came out. Asakusa is always crowded, and with the number of foreign tourists steadily increasing, this shop gets quite packed around lunchtime.
