Yanaka Ginza ~ The scene of shops lining Yomise Street

Walking from JR Nippori Station toward Yanaka Ginza, I was surprised by the number of foreign tourists (about 40% were foreign visitors). I thought Yanesen and Yanaka Ginza must be featured in guidebooks and travel sites for foreign tourists as spots to enjoy the old downtown atmosphere. Walk straight along Yanaka Ginza until you reach Yomise Street. First, head north along the street, strolling around the Enmei Jizo area. Then, walk straight south all the way to the street in front of Sendagi Station. You'll encounter a truly diverse mix of old and new shops along the way. Browsing the shops and stopping at cafes makes for a delightful half-day outing, and I highly recommend it.
