Its official name is "Jingu," and it stands as the highest-ranked shrine, the top-tier palace among all shrines across Japan. Personally, I don't care much about shrine rankings, but its history spanning over 2,000 years since its founding certainly carries weight. It boasts many grand traditions unique to Ise, such as the Shikinen Sengu ritual, where the eastern and western main halls are alternately rebuilt every 20 years. Visitors come year-round. If you live in Japan, I think it's definitely worth visiting at least once. The surrounding shops are also enjoyable.
