About a 5-minute drive from Sakata Station lies Shimo-Hie Shrine, a shrine with a fairly large grounds. While it has a charmingly unkempt feel that makes it all the more enjoyable, the grounds also feature the former Mitsuoka Bunko, a library built in 1923 in the Taisho Modern style. Although the building is now too dilapidated to enter, it has a distinctive character and is quite lovely.
