I visited Otagiri Pond in Oyama Dairi Park without any prior information. I’ve been to the Blue Pond in Biei, Hokkaido, and I felt that Otagiri Pond has the potential to rival it. Both the park’s location and the pond’s scenery are wonderful. I thought that if they could maintain the water’s clarity without disrupting the ecosystem, it could become one of the leading tourist attractions representing Machida—or even Tokyo. Are there any initiatives underway to achieve that? I imagine many people would say, “No, nature should be left as it is,” but if it’s possible while preserving the ecosystem, I feel the benefits would be significant.
