This forest of ginkgo and metasequoia trees surrounding the large pond in the northeast area was probably the spot in Toneri Park where the autumn colors appeared earliest, and where the balance of light and shadow was exceptionally beautiful. By mid-November, only about 30% of the southeast area had turned color, but this spot was already beautifully painted in red and yellow. Most of the trees appeared to be ginkgo, and the leaves, translucent in the sunlight, were truly stunning. Around the large pond, people ranging from children to elderly gentlemen were fishing, scooping something with nets, or walking their dogs. Each scene perfectly complemented the autumn colors, the water surface, and the dappled sunlight filtering through the trees.
