When touring Hokkaido, I figured the area around Sapporo Station was so urban that I probably didn't need to stop by. But just in case, I took an electric bike for a quick spin around the neighborhood and stumbled upon a surprisingly nice spot. The former residence of Takeshiro Nagayama, a military officer who contributed greatly to Hokkaido's development, and a Western-style building constructed by Mitsubishi after acquiring the land, are both preserved within Nagayama Memorial Park. You can enjoy the tranquil Meiji and Showa-era architecture blending Japanese and Western styles while taking a break at the Western-style building's café, Nagayama Rest. That said, this café is quite popular and often crowded, so you might need to wait in line a bit. However, both the Nagayama Curry and the soft-serve ice cream were absolutely delicious.
