While strolling through Nagahama, I decided to visit Nagahama Hachimangu Shrine without any particular expectations. Perhaps because my expectations were low, or maybe the timing worked in my favor, I ended up having a more enjoyable time than I anticipated. For its size, it has quite a few structures, and they seem to be built in a relatively unusual style. I didn't know this, but it seems to be a shrine famous for the Nagahama Hikiyama Festival, one of Japan's Three Great Float Festivals (the other two being the Gion Festival in Kyoto and the Takayama Festival in Takayama City). However, perhaps due to the intense heat, there were no other visitors when I went.
