Nagasaki Station is a city of slopes. While Onomichi in Hiroshima and Hakodate are also cities of slopes, Nagasaki's sloping scenery is truly magnificent. However, this makes getting around on foot quite challenging. That's where electric bicycles come in handy. A short 10-minute walk from Nagasaki Station is a place called ROUTE, which operates as both a cafe and a lodging. They also rent out electric bicycles here, and the quality of the bikes is excellent (the shop's atmosphere is also fantastic). So, I'd like to share a route for exploring the city using an e-bike rented here. First, to fully savor Nagasaki's slopes, sea, and exotic charm, take your time enjoying the route from ROUTE to Oura Cathedral via the Dutch Slope. I visited in the height of summer, so it was intensely hot, but even more than that, I was utterly captivated by the exotic sights and vibrant, colorful scenes before my eyes.
Oura Cathedral is a popular spot, so there are tourists, but I could appreciate all the buildings completely stress-free. From there, riding comfortably along the coast brings you to Mizube no Mori Park. It's quite spacious, and I think you could easily spend an hour relaxing there. If it's lunchtime, having a picnic-style lunch in the park would be lovely. After that, you could head to Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown, or if you're craving Nagasaki's local specialty, Turkish Rice, I highly recommend Shu.
