The nostalgic and warm shrine of Prince Yamato Takeru, symbolizing Nezu

Nezu Shrine is known for many reasons: it is said to have been founded by Yamato Takeru about 1,900 years ago, it is one of the Tokyo Ten Shrines, and it has connections to literary masters like Mori Ōgai and Natsume Sōseki. The shrine grounds have a very charming layout, and the thousand torii gates at the subsidiary shrine, Otome Inari Shrine, are especially popular. Much like the neighborhood of Nezu itself, the shrine is enveloped in a nostalgic warmth. Furthermore, a crowdfunding project is underway to relocate Mori Ōgai's former residence from the Suigetsu Hotel Ōgaisō—which closed due to the pandemic—to Nezu Shrine. Those interested in Nezu Shrine or Mori Ōgai are encouraged to learn more about this project.
