100 Selected Historical Parks in Japan! Yakushi-ike Park in Machida
I visited Yakushi-ike Park, a park in Machida City, Tokyo, that has been selected as one of the “100 Historic Parks of Japan.” I didn’t have high expectations, but I was quite impressed by the historic landscape that has existed since 1577. Although it was late April and the cherry blossoms had already fallen, the wisteria was in full bloom, and the vibrant scenery, with the fresh greenery of early spring just beginning to sprout, was outstanding. The layout of the park, centered around Yakushi Pond, was so beautiful that I could easily imagine how it must showcase different kinds of beauty with each passing season. You can also enjoy amazake (sweet rice wine) and matcha tea at the Yakushi Chaya teahouse by the pond. The park is open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM (until 7:00 PM from June to August). I highly recommend it.
