The coastal route from Nishi-Maizuru to Higashi-Maizuru is packed with sights

I rode the LUUP I rented at Nishi-Maizuru Station along the coastal road (from Kyoto Prefectural Road 565 to National Route 27) to Higashi-Maizuru Station, and wow, it was a truly captivating route. Not only is the sea beautiful, but you can also see remnants of the former Imperial Navy's only military port on the Sea of Japan and many escort vessels anchored there. Just before Higashi-Maizuru Station, you can pass through the Kita-Sui Tunnel (a Registered Tangible Cultural Property), built in 1904 and used back then for transporting supplies to naval facilities. It's a deeply interesting route where you can feel the development and history of the military port.
