Kawara-ya: An Oasis-like Izakaya in the Heart of Shibuya-Harajuku
Right between JR Shibuya Station and JR Harajuku Station, there's an izakaya called Kawaraya. It specializes in fish dishes, and the menu features incredibly reasonable prices that make you wonder, "Is this really okay for Shibuya?" But beyond the prices, the atmosphere inside and the warmth of the staff are truly wonderful. Looking out the window, you're in the heart of the big city, yet in a good way, being in this place makes you forget you're in the metropolis—it's that comfortable. Lunch is especially popular, and it seems constantly packed even on weekdays. However, it's relatively quiet in the evening hours. If you find yourself craving simple, delicious flavors in the city, I highly recommend it.
