I stopped by when I visited Kiyokawa Village, the only village in Kanagawa Prefecture. It appears to be a historic shrine founded around 1177–1181, and it had a wonderful atmosphere. The feel of the forest, the dignified presence of the komainu, and the appearance of the bell tower—all of these elements, combined with the sense that it doesn’t usually attract many visitors, emphasized the place’s mystique.
