Awashima Shrine: Experience the Finest of Sasebo

This shrine is truly exceptional—you won't find many like it. Even taking your time to worship, it only takes about 30 to 40 minutes, so it's not overly large. Since it gets too dark to see your feet safely, arriving before dusk is best.

The Ultimate Sunset Sea Around Awashima Shrine in Sasebo

The scenery around the entrance to Awashima Shrine is absolutely stunning, and the sunset shot along the unassuming seaside town down the Kujukushima coast, about a 20-minute bike ride from there, was breathtaking. Be sure to pass through here before heading back towards Sasebo Station!

Sasebo's finest izakaya in Japan, Sasai Zumi

This is easily the best casual izakaya I've ever visited. Every single seafood item is incredibly fresh and unbelievably delicious. While everything on the menu is tasty, the live squid and live horse mackerel are absolute must-tries. Both are served alive. And yet, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. Truly the best.

Brooklyn Beach in Sasebo: Super Easy to Get Into

This is an incredibly stylish American bar. When you come to Sasebo, you really should experience the U.S. military's favorite spots. While there are many bars, this one is in a prime location and very easy to get into, so I highly recommend it. Just be warned, the fish and chips come in huge portions, so be careful if you're already full.
