I came across a wonderful temple. At Tōkō-in Temple in Ōiso, there’s a communal space that doubles as a library, and anyone can use it for free. This was my first time trying Buddhist painting, and tracing the outlines of a Buddhist image in the unique atmosphere of the temple’s communal space—something I hadn’t done in a long time—felt refreshing and left me feeling mentally and physically rejuvenated. There were also plenty of interesting books unique to temples and shrines, and I found myself thinking I’d like to come back next time to read at my leisure. They serve tea, coffee, and water, making it a wonderful place to calm your mind or take a break.
