UCC Cafe Mercado Hamada, a long-established cafe at Hamada Station
While transferring on the JR San'in Main Line, I had about an hour to spare at Hamada Station in Shimane Prefecture and wanted to take a break somewhere. However, almost no cafes were open before 10:00 AM. Among them, this UCC Cafe Mercado Hamada branch was a lifesaver, opening from 9:00 AM, even though it was about a 7-minute walk from the station. I only planned to drink coffee, but the waffles looked delicious, so I ordered one with matcha ice cream—and it was a huge hit. The waffle batter was delightfully chewy and crispy! The coffee was bold and rich with a strong acidic kick, perfect especially for the morning. If you're looking for a cafe near Hamada Station, definitely give this one a try!
