Bentenjima in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Drawn by the sound of its name and imagining its lovely location seemingly standing within Lake Hamana, I tried to get off there only to find no electric bike rentals! Walking was impossible in over 33°C heat... But the next town over, Arai, had HELLO CYCLING (I wish they'd spread much more nationwide)! Without hesitation, I rented an electric bike at Arai Station, and this was an excellent decision. The beauty of this coastal town—or rather, lakeside town—is incredible. The water quality is stunning. It was too hot for most people to be out, but a few anglers were there, catching fish like sardines. I spotted sea bass everywhere just by looking. I couldn't help but feel I'd stumbled upon a great place.
